Comfort Zone

In 2011, Benjamin Levy began working as an Exploratorium artist-in-residence to develop a new work for their West Gallery. The result, Comfort Zone, debuted October 22, 2013 in the museum’s Black Box, a space devoted to experimenting with social interaction and exploring the interplay between science, society, and culture. Comfort Zone is a participatory installation which integrates choreography into a virtual, interactive experience, exploring themes of group dynamics, choice, and social boundaries. In conjunction with the development of the Comfort Zone exhibit, LEVYdance created a live performative version of the work. Every Thursday evening in January the company’s dancers cycled through the museum’s galleries for several hours with a playful interactive performance that invited visitors to engage with the company members and each other in movement-based games.
